One of the greatest pet peeves of the anime community is filler: episodes that don’t advance the main story. I think this is because a lot of filler in anime is generated by the producers who need to buy time until the manga catches up with the anime, so people associate the concept of filler with this.
However, when you ignore this problem, the only bad thing about a filler episode can be that it doesn’t advance the main plot - which is a meme-tier concern.
Avatar the Last Airbender is an example of an anime (yes, anime) with fairly good filler - they usually advance the story of one of the characters in some way or they explore their character and story. Code Geass also has acceptable filler - if I recall correctly, the filler was vomedy episodes which were actually pretty funny, but actually aren’t bad.
Naruto is an example of filler being appropriated for bad ends - it’s just there to stall until the manga catches up. With one exception - the Kakashi anbu arc was sick.
"I think this is because a lot of filler in anime is generated by the producers who need to buy time until the manga catches up with the anime, so people learn to associate the concept of filler with this kind of shit. " This is quite literally the definition of filler. Anyone who uses "filler" to simply mean "content that doesn't advance the plot" is using the term incorrectly. if a beach episode appeared in the original manga, it's not filler!
