TL;DR: watch it if you like Attack on Titan
Synopsis: man wakes up to a world that’s infested with aliens and is saved by a female soldier. He travels with her group to a space station to be saved.
Blue Gender is a lot like Attack on Titan — brutal and gorey story where the world has been overtaken by a group of monsters. I would say that Blue Gender is overall better written, has a much better ending, and a more adult atmosphere. Attack on Titan has more peak moments, better art, and has better worldbuilding.
Some complain about the overwhelming cynicism of the anime, but I didn’t find this to be a problem at all, it is counterbalanced well by the idealistic protagonist. In addition, the dark atmosphere is very appropriate for this kind of post-apocalyptic setting.
What I think this anime suffers from a lack of originality (there are many post-apocalyptic anime with monster invasions) and mediocre production value. Most of this can be excused by its time, though there was still a great deal of anime with great production value (e.g. Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop) in the 90s.

Originality: (4/5) - monster invasion of the earth is overdone now, but not as much back then. Suffers from “eva clone” syndrome as well.
